Is sending a friend request on facebook to a teacher of the opposite sex embarrassing?
Should class feel awkward or is the person looking into it too much?

I don't necessarily think that it's embarrasing but I do think it's inappropriate. IMO, teachers should definitely deny any friend requests from students, especially if the student is a minor.
